Sleep is partial or full unconsciousness where voluntary functions are stopped and brain is active. Whenever we are drifted into sleep within a few minutes its sign of good sleep initiation, and once fully refreshed we don’t require any need for alarms etc to get us up, the sleep is complete. If sleep is inadequate we can have numerous indications like the continuous pressure to sleep. The instability in mood is also something that reveals the lack of sleep. The person with less sleep will be irritable, hard to deal with, depressed or anxious. Reflex responses of the brain are all affected badly. Sleep conserves energy and helps us live longer and better. Sleep recoups vitality and alertness in human beings. We possess biorhythms that helps regulate our sleep. There can be a lot of reasons because of which sleep can be affected. Diseases like insomnia, sleep apnea, parasomnia, restless leg syndrome, general anxiety, bereavement, psychosis, arthritis, leg cramps, neuropathy and so many others can cause sleeplessness. We need to make a sound sleep plan. The daily exposure to light at the appropriate timings matter a lot. It is not preferable to follow the clock in order to sleep. If unable to sleep at the desired cut off time, carry on with the activity you were in till you start feeling sleepy. Tea and coffee be avoided before bed time, heavy foods that can lead to gas and indigestion must be avoided prior to sleep. Environmental factors also need to be taken care of. Avoid any naps during the wake period as they will only decrease the sleep pressure. For a healthy life it is essential to have a good nights rest and sufficient amount of sleep. At times we consider sleep to be less important whereas it is otherwise. Its important can never be underestimated. It has direct impressions and bearing upon our daily activities and life. There is of course a dire need to keep a track of our health and sleep habits in order to make our mind to work at the best of its capability.
