Like the look of false eyelashes or even mascara, but not the high maintenance? Now there’s LashDip: a new semi-permanent treatment that promises to make your lashes look fuller without the hassle, but is it safe and worth the cost?
Beth Lagerberg leads an active lifestyle. She swims, runs and bikes, so wants to look good with minimal effort. That’s why she’s agreed to have her eyelashes dipped.
What is it? Jessica Campbell of Spa Scotta explains.
“The LashDip is just like using mascara. It’s going to give you some definition with your lashes, it’s going to give you a little bit of volume,” said Campbell.
Beth will get three coats of what some are calling shrinkwrap for eyelashes. It can go on heavy or light, depending upon the client’s wishes.
“The way that it’s applied it does coat the lash, then the lashtician will individually separate out the lashes, so yes, it is like having an individual semi permanent coating on each lash,” said Jessica.
Opthalmologist Alex On of Virgina Mason warns that these products can contain harsh ingredients.
“LashDip has acetone in it. Acetone has been shown to be irritating to the eyes and can even cause corneal erosion.”
Jessica said that’s why lashtician Raina Green takes precautions, including using a small fan to keep the fumes away.
” It does need to be done by someone who is trained in order not to have any ill effects, and honestly the only time is when you’re having it done. When it’s done and she’s cured it, it’s an inert product,” said Jessica.
Beth finds this preferable to eyelash tinting which she says can sting.
“This stuff doesn’t do that,” she said.
Once it’s completely dry, she’ll be able to swim , sweat, and sleep in it.
Her reaction to the finished results?
“Look at that. It is just like I put on mascara. Oh that is so cool!”
The initial application costs $125. The three-week refresher treatment is $45. With both steps, results should last for about six weeks. LashDip can be used with extensions and with Latisse.
